The Fall 2018 medical staff leadership retreat was an inspiring opportunity to share best practices and future plans. The twice-yearly gathering permits WellStar physicians to learn from one another and collaborate on ways to improve performance and address challenges. The weekend event was held at the Westin Hotel in Buckhead and was well attended and supported by members of WellStar Clinical Partners.
Another highlight was Care Map design for surgical and heart failure service lines. Care Map implementation would potentially have clinical implications for a variety of other programs.
When physicians come together to share ideas, best practices and implement innovative approaches to medicine, true clinical integration takes place.
Objectives Achieved
Sharing of key initiatives and areas of focus by service line leaders
Optimizing the patient's journey through surgical procedures
Redesigning care for patients with chronic disease - from home/community to hospital and back
Application of the "NextCare" principles which include interdisciplinary teams, standardized protocols and pathways while leveraging physician-level data
Streamlined cardiovascular interventions before full implementation
Physician feedback and engagement at all planning stages for future retreats
